Afandou Golf Course
Afandou,
on the beautiful island of Rhodes, is the new name for the most complete
Golf Club resort in the Mediterranean. In character, atmosphere and feel,
Rhodes is like no other island in the Aegean, and Afandou is all you expect
a golf club resort to be. And more, since it occupies one of the loveliest
spots in Rhodes, Afandou Bay, (22 km from Rhodes Town), on the road to
Lindos, where the temple of Athena balances on a cliff top above faultless
sands.
Features: One 18-hole,
par-73, golf course (6800 yards), designed by Britain's world famous golf
course architect, Donald Harradine. Since May 1973 the 18 holes have been
made available to golfers. The course's tactical features are a challenge
to good scoring, both for amateurs and professionals. The trees, fairways,
and greens are laid with different grasses selected to keep the course
green throughout the year. The Golf Club is open all the year round. Admission
fees are nominal and caddies, caddy carts, golf clubs and balls, as well
as instructions, are available at moderate hire charges.
Climate: The sky above
Rhodes has been called "The great blue dome of the Aegean",
and it is the combination of this ever present sun and the mild climate
that gives Rhodes its special appeal. Winter temperatures are in the 50°s
and 60°s. In spring the weather is blissful, the flowers are in bloom
and the island is at its most ravishingly beautiful. In summer - well that's another story
How to get to Rhodes:
There are regular daily flights from Athens, operated by Olympic Airways,
Aegean, Cronus or Air Greece. Major airline companies operate charter
flights during the spring and summer seasons from places all over Europe.
